Civil Law I. As the starting point of the Law degree, this module offers a structured view of the legal system and its sources—including the effectiveness of the Constitution and the EU framework—and places students within the origins, evolution and reforms of the Spanish Civil Code. It then explores the law of persons (legal capacity, civil status, age, marriage and kinship, nationality and regional civil status, absence and death, the Civil Registry, personality rights and data protection), and concludes with analysis of the juridical act (elements, interpretation and invalidity). Competency-based approach: the module strengthens critical reasoning, legal communication and the use of legal sources (legislation, case law and academic commentary), through case resolution and guided debate. Methodology and workload align with 6 ECTS and 180 total hours across lectures and practical sessions, preparation and tutorials. Assessment combines continuous assessment (20%) and a final exam (80%); passing the exam is mandatory to pass the module. Continuous assessment is not retakeable and is carried forward to the resit assessment. This structure supports a solid, applied understanding of the general part of Civil Law from the first term of the first year.
